Donald & Virginia Sherwood
Walla Walla's truly great builders have included such recognized leaders as Dr. Dorsey Syng Baker, Stephen B. L. Penrose, Dr. N. G. Blalock, John Langdon, and Vincent (Nig) Borleske. They all were major players in the development of the community of Walla Walla. Others could be given equal mention. Certainly a name to add is Donald Sherwood, a person completely devoted to serving his community and his alma mater, Whitman College.
Donald Sherwood owed no small amount of his success to his wife of many years, Virginia, daughter of publisher John G. Kelly and Martha M. Kelly. To her husband's local, regional, and national success, Virginia "contributed in full measure..." as noted in the book, "John G. Kelly, His Life and Legacy".
With significant contribution by Vance Orchard, a documentary of the lifetime contributions of Donald and Virginia Sherwood to the Walla Walla Valley is available by clicking here. More importantly, it shares the principles and values that were an integral part of their lives and continue to be expressed today in the work of their legacy, the Sherwood Trust. |
